Shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday
What are Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
In the United States, the Friday after Thanksgiving is an unofficial holiday dedicated to shopping. For many years, the day after Thanksgiving has signaled the beginning of the Christmas shopping season. Over the past decade, however, Black Friday has become big business for retailers, who slash prices, sometimes 50 to 75 percent off, in an effort to bring in customers on the biggest shopping day of the year. In turn, Black Friday has practically become a sport for serious shoppers, some of whom line up outside stores in order to be in better position to snatch up one-day-only deals.
The online sister of Black Friday is Cyber Monday, which takes place the Monday following Thanksgiving. This is a day when retailers will offer online-only deals. Many travel websites offer deep discounts on Cyber Monday.

Why Shop on Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday?
In my experience, Black Friday can be an unpleasant time to go shopping. In some cities or at some stores, particularly big box retailers, crowds can be heavy and even aggressive if sale items sell out quickly. Similarly, it can be frustrating to shop on Cyber Monday because one sometimes must contend with slow servers and weeding through online deals until you find the right one.
On the other hand, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have become so prevalent that it is possible to find great deals at smaller stores, boutiques, restaurants, hotels, and more. The key is to know exactly what you are looking for before venturing out to shop, whether at a brick and mortar store or online.
